Step into the realm of artistic exploration as you embark on a collaborative journey split into two Workshops with Clay Temple.co and Beautiful Things by Jasmine.
Obvara, a method shrouded in mystery and tradition, involves the mesmerising process of dipping bisque-fired pottery into a distinctive fermented concoction of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, followed by rapid cooling. The result? A breathtaking tapestry of textures and patterns, where the unpredictable dances hand in hand with the beautiful.
SESSION ONE: In the first segment of your adventure, you'll mould your own narrative with two wheel-thrown vessels at Clay Temple.Co, guided by the skilled hands and expertise of our wheel throwing instructors.
Once you have finished your wheel throwing class, your pots will be bisque fired and sent off to your Obvara teacher, where they will await your arrival and booked in experience.
SESSION TWO: You'll discover the exciting world of ‘Obvara’, an ancient Eastern European ceramic firing technique dating back to the 12th century. This method involves dipping bisque-fired pottery into a unique fermented mixture of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, followed by rapid cooling. The result is a mesmerising array of textures and patterns that are as unpredictable as they are beautiful.
Under the guidance of Jasmine, you will learn a variety of dipping techniques through detailed demonstrations. You'll then have the opportunity to apply these methods to your own creations, surrounded by an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation for the unveiling of each unique vessel.
